Basic ingredients: A Georgian manor on a 200-acre Cornish estate is the base for the UK’s first residential cooking and gardening school, run by Leiths-trained chef Kate Benson. Seasonal ingredients and cycles are at the heart of the school’s philosophy. Students learn how to grow veg in the Victorian kitchen garden and cook what they harvest. The week also includes a butchery demo, seafood and baking classes. Costs £650 for a long weekend, all inclusive, or £1,200 for a five-day course.
They say: We only run a few select dates each year but expect to learn lots in a week that’s jam-packed with tips from both the kitchen and garden. Our guests write warmly about the country house party atmosphere.
We say: This is the perfect course if you’re thinking of getting an allotment or growing more than just herbs in a window box in your garden.
