Basic Ingredients: With a whopping average of 20 courses per month on offer at this Derbyshire cookery school there would appear to be something for everyone here. From cupcake classes for kids to budget cooking for students and with baking, brewing, sushi, tapas, Thai and many more, including seasonal courses (foraging for wild mushrooms an spicy autumn pickling, for example), there are a large team of experts on hand to deliver. The school is headed up by local chef Joe Hunt who oversees a smart new teaching kitchen complete with six double work stations. Prices vary, but a half-day course will set you back around £80 and, for those looking for something more substantial,  the school offers Introduction to Cooking courses ranging from £120  – £245.

They say: Tideswell has an unpretentious real life quality about it that we hope is reflected in the School of Food.

We say: This is a school that seems to genuinely care about the local village community and is at the epicentre of the Taste Tideswell community project. With BIG lottery funding and a star role in BBC’s Village SOS, Vardy and his team aim to bolster the local food economy by championing local suppliers and teaching people about the true provenance of food.

I live in Australia and just watched the Sarah Beeney programme Village SOS. I was so very impressed with the dedication of everyone to transform the Tideswell into a thriving village. I come from England and have been in Australia for 40 years. When next I’m in the UK I will make a point of visiting Tideswell. Well done to all who made this programme and breathing new life into a beautiful part of England. Thank you, Regards Anne Carter .

I’ve been to an Italian cookery morning and an Indian cookery day course at Tideswell, and have thoroughly enjoyed them both. The chefs are friendly, helpful & knowledgeable, and nothing is too much trouble. Taking my children there this summer to decorate cupcakes, and they are so excited! Would recommend this fabulous place to anyone!
