Basic ingredients: This brand-new cookery school based in Newport is run by a team of experienced professional chefs particularly keen to encourage youngsters to get cracking in the kitchen. The Young Cooks Holiday Club, for example, is for ages 8+ and a fun introduction to cooking. On the adult front, whether you are looking for a week-long course that will provide the fundamentals of marine cookery (cooking on yachts) or seeking to spend an evening focused on local ingredients from the island in Taste of the Wight, the cookery school aims to accommodate all tastes and abilities. Courses for Express Dinner Parties, Ladies who Do Lunch and Introduction to Cooking on a Budget look interesting. A single evening course runs from 6pm to 8.30pm and costs £45; day courses are excellent value at £65 and week-long courses range from £475 – £750. Each course is at a stipulated level, from basic to advanced, which helps students to make the right choice.
They say: Our team of professional chef trainers are all passionate about using the fabulous food that is grown, reared, fished or produced on the beautiful Isle of Wight.
We say: Keep an eye out for a course-in-the-making: the four-week Advanced Cookery Diploma, which will be the school’s highest level course with guest chef appearances and no doubt plenty of exemplary cooking. Prices to be confirmed.
