Basic ingredients: With its country estate setting and impressive roster of former MasterChef and Great British Bake Off finalists teaching classes, Seasoned Cookery School in Derbyshire has the ingredients for a great culinary day out. The purpose-built courtyard kitchens are well equipped and the lay out encourages sociable classes. The 30 or so different classes on offer are shared between these passionate TV cooks along with experts in Indian, Asian and other cuisines. An innovative mix of day courses include One Pot Wonders, Game, Curing and Smoking and Gluten-Free Baking. They cost between £149 and £175 and each one starts with coffee and refreshments and includes a full lunch and tastings of the little extras prepared throughout the day. Half day classes start from £65 and feature Macarons and Chutney and Relish. For a flavour of some of the school’s flair and professionalism in the kitchen check out some of their delicious recipes including toffee apple and cider cake and chocolate orange tiffin.
They say: We believe that people learn best by doing and thrive off inspirational chefs, hence our courses are taught by Masterchef and Great British Bake Off finalist as well as specialist chefs. Our cookery courses therefore include a mixture of hands on work, cooking in pairs and chef demonstrations to ensure that you get the most out of your day.
We say: The cookery school is superbly located, close to a number of motorways and only 30 miles from Birmingham. Course-wise there’s enough to keep everyone happy, from the extremely practical (Stocks and Sauces) to the trendy and exotic (A Taste of Peru).
