Basic ingredients: “Making connections through food” is the Jenius Social motto and it is inscribed on the glass door of their bright, modern venue in north London. Inside, a lively programme of cookery classes and masterclasses form part of an impressive menu that includes supper clubs, private dining and bespoke events. There is a wide range of enticing cookery classes, from the snappily named Pimp my Profiteroles and the Great London Bake Off to Tempting Tapas (“discover your inner culinary matador”) and Indian Street Food. Most of the classes run for two hours and cost about £60. There are more than 20 different masterclasses on offer – from artisan sausage making and butchery to cheese and coffee masterclasses – each is run by an expert in their field, typically last for two hours and cost from £28.
They say: Whatever it is you want to learn, Jenius Social can cater for it. Our wide range of cookery classes are hands-on and chef-led, meaning you get stuck in with expert guidance the whole way. You’ll leave loaded with a slew of new skills that are sure to impress your friends and family.
We say: Jenius Social is like a real world equivalent of a richly varied online food hub. The founder, Jennifer Yong, has a real enthusiasm for food and socialising and it shows in the way courses are run so efficiently – students make the most of their time (and money) by acquiring new cookery skills and having fun with other like-minded people. We also like the way vegetarians are embraced and alternative meat-free dishes can be taught in some of the classes.
