Basic ingredients: Despite its familiar location there isn’t a tart in sight at this Peak District school. A wealth of expert cooks provide tuition from the bright, spacious converted saw mill that is Hartingtons. Keen to bring out the entrepreneurial artisan, they teach the all important business aspects of artisan food production alongside specific courses in cheese, bread, beer and preserves. Top chefs teach master classes for the serious cooks and there are more accessible courses for absolute beginners in the form of World Flavours – In One Pot. Day courses vary in terms of skill level but all are priced at £95 and include lunch, refreshments and the class recipes.
They say: We believe that food is one of life’s great experiences. Hartingtons was set up… to educate, bemuse, inform and amuse people with an interest in food.
We say: This is a school that is serious about local produce and those that promote it – there’s a pork pie making masterclass and a Flavours of (nearby) Chatsworth House class. They aim to create a network of artisan food businesses and anyone looking to get involved and expand their business can contact them directly via the website.
