Basic Ingredients: Part of the burgeoning trend of cookery schools that focuses on provenance and nutrition, Wiltshire restaurant, The Bistro, hosts regular courses run by the eponymous Peter Vaughan and his team. There are around five courses per month, including Starting From Scratch and a variety of baking workshops and international cuisine masterclasses – including Persian and Caribbean. These are led by Vaughan and cost £120 for five hours, while the Young Chef’s Academy is an intensive five-day course led by Margaret Bryant, who taught food technology in schools for 25 years. At £200, it is impressive value for what promises to be an “inspiring, educational and exhausting” experience. There is something for all ages and abilities with each course handily assigned a difficulty rating from 1 – 5 depending on whether you are someone who “would prefer to have my own personal chef at home” or “feel good enough to cook for Gordon Ramsay”.
They say: Our team has run cookery classes for over a decade – so we know how to provide the the very best experience. New courses are coming on stream all the time, as our creative tutors entice you to explore and expand your skills.
We say: Having worked in Michelin-starred restaurants, Peter Vaughan now champions “naturally balanced” cooking using what he calls “body friendly” foods. The result is educational courses, focusing on fresh, seasonal and healthy ingredients, that don’t compromise on flair and enjoyment.
