Basic ingredients: Making good use of its expertise and top-notch facilities, the Chefs’ Academy fine dining restaurant at Newcastle College has launched a new cookery school for amateur and home bakers. Class numbers are kept small so students can benefit from the support of a team of experienced chefs in their quest for the perfect bake. Adult classes include, Bread for Beginners, Organic Artisan Bread Making, Advanced Confectionery, Butchery Master Class and Food Safety and Hygiene. Ideal for budding young bakers are the Junior Bakers’ Academy and Junior Chefs’ Academy courses. These take place in school holidays and will soon be augmented by weekend clubs for junior bakers and chefs. The academy provides all the ingredients and cookery equipment – all students need to bring along is a container to take home their delicious bakes to share with friends and family. Adult courses cost just £65 for the day and junior courses start from as little as £10 per session. Light refreshments are provided on all courses.
They say: Our classes use only the finest, locally sourced ingredients and aim to improve the students cooking, in their chosen discipline, to a professional standard.
We say: You can’t argue with day courses in organic artisan bread making and butchery masterclasses for £65. A community-focused offering at very reasonable prices is a welcome addition to the cookery school scene in the North East of England.
