Basic ingredients: A cookery school set up as a social enterprise offering accessible courses for local people for the price of little more than a new hardback cookbook. York Cookery School operates out of purpose-built premises with a team of about a dozen chefs that includes sushi and chocolate experts. Predominantly aimed at beginners and amateurs, courses range from knife skills and a workshop on Ketchups and Cordials to useful community classes that teach students How to Cook Seasonal Vegetables.
They say: Our aim is to provide opportunities to learn about healthy cooking and eating and opportunities for social interaction to groups in the community who wouldn’t ordinarily have access to the cookery school experience.
We say: We can’t fault the school’s ethos – it’s doing the Jamie thing week in week out. If only there were more schools like this we’d be a healthier and happier nation. It’s also strong on kids’ cookery clubs.
