From novelty cakes to serious fine-dining fare, and a couple of budget options, here are more schools that have caught our eye. Have you been to any of them? Tell us about your experience in the comments box below.

Gilli Cliff Cookery, Crayke, York

Taught from Cordon Bleu cook Gilli Cliff’s country cottage, these courses won’t break the bank at £35 for the day, which includes wine and a three course lunch.

The Nigel Brown Cookery Academy, Barrow Upon Humber

If the website is anything to go by, man about town Brown runs a ship-shape school offering a wide choice of hands-on courses. Fine dining dictates with half and full day tuition covering Chocolate and Sugarwork, Fish and Shellfish and Michelin Star cookery.

Plan to Cook, Norwich

If you ‘plan to cook’ healthy, simple and cost effective fare, you could choose from Cupcake, Dinner Party, Vegetarian or Authentic Indian classes taught by a mother-of-three near Norwich city centre. Just 4 people per class and £35 for 3 hours serve to keep cost and stress levels low.

Weekend of Cooking at Kilcoe Cottage, Ballydehob, Co. Cork

Experienced yacht chef Sharon Murphy offers culinary weekend breaks at her spacious holiday home in West Cork. Large rooms are for a minimum 4 people to share at a cost of €345 each. This includes all food, drink and cookery lessons, with themes such as Thai, Family Food and baking.

Flavours School of Cookery, Bournemouth

Flavours is a welcoming high street school where guest chefs from in and around Dorset drop in to teach classes in their specialist field. Individual classes are divided into categories including Skills, Entertainers and World Class. There is also Kids Corner, offering a range of school holiday courses.

Cakes 4 Fun, London

Whether you’re looking to learn the art of professional cake decorating or brush up on existing skills, you can have your cake and eat it at the kitchens of this Putney shop. Baking master classes are popular, and sell out fast, but there are many cake decoration classes to choose from and they even offer a Professional Diploma.
