Corinne Goodman specialises in authentic Indian food

Basic ingredients: Corinne Goodman has been running cookery classes inspired by her mum’s creative South East Indian cuisine since August 2008, having learned to cook with the help of her mother’s daily telephone calls when she moved to the UK in 1989. The Creative Kitchen brand was established by preparing a range of dishes from her home in Faversham, Kent, and selling them at farm shops, shows and farmers’ markets. In 2009 Corinne extended her services to home delivery. Classes aim to demystify Indian cookery through understanding spices, fail-safe recipes and an attentive one-on-one approach, made possible by small class sizes of up to eight. These are held at Corinne’s kitchen in Selling, with larger classes held either at Sheldwich Village Hall or Davington Primary School in Faversham. Half-day courses broadly cover Indian cuisine, from curries to street food, with a 3-4 hour day including an introduction to spices, two hours of hands-on cookery and a full lunch with wine. The cost is very reasonable at £55 per person and those who contact Corinne directly can discuss the opportunity for full day or weekend classes.

They say: Learn the skills to create your own Asian culinary experience and impress your family and friends. The cookery classes are designed to provide you with the skill to use spices with confidence. The atmosphere is relaxed and fun and we cater for all levels of proficiency.

We say: Corinne’s love and respect for her native food means she takes great care over what goes into her recipes. As a member of Produced in Kent she has strong ties to local businesses, from whom she strives to source all her meat, fish and vegetables, ensuring this is organic where possible. This ethos is applied across the board from cookery classes and home delivery to dinner party catering and local events.

  1. Teddy Kempster says:

Cooking with Corinne has given me a deeper understanding of Indian cooking techniques, which are key to the rich, rounded flavours of her recipes. I’d recommend her classes – they are great fun, you learn a lot, AND get to eat a great meal at the end!

  2. Harry Davey says:

Corinne introduced me to correct, traditional Indian cuisine… prior to which I cooked English and then added curry powder. I now do not have the need to go to Indian restuarants… I can make the dishes just as well for myself.

  3. I have thoroughly enjoyed having lessons with Corinne. I am not a natural cook and get a bit anxious about it, but she is so patient and explains everything (even how to cut meat properly!) as well as demonstrating every step so we all ended up with delicious dishes we had never imagined being able to make. I especially like her vegetable and fast-food cookery, but her Indian Christmas meal for a village hall full of people was a highlight as well! Keep up the good work Corinne and I’ll be back for more lessons soon – Frances Beaumont

My dad loves cooking Indian food, so for Father’s Day I booked him a cookery class with Corinne. Both my father and father in-law cooked lots of different dishes for about 10 of us. The food and atmosphere were amazing. It’s quite clear that Corinne is passionate about what she does and inspires others to cook with that same passion. Since my dad’s cooking course, we have bought some industrial sized pots in order for him to cook curries for family parties. Corinne’s folder of recipes is now easily the most used cookbook in our house.

I bought a cookery class for my partner’s Christmas present. He absolutely loved it and it was even more special that I could go along to taste the delights that they had cooked that day which made it a lovely experience for both of us. Corinne and her husband were very welcoming and kind. They run a fabulous business which is not only a great experience, but also great value for money. We regularly have Corinne’s potato cakes, chicken curry and cauliflower side dish – yum yum! I wouldn’t have any hesitation in booking another course for myself or as a present.
